GFRP rebar versus TMT steel
GFRP rebar on this site is glass fibre and cured resin, with a rib. The steel bar in this comparison is TMT, not mild scrap. FRP is the wider family name. Our bar is glass.
GFRP does not rust. A 12 mm bar from our plant is 0.250 kg per metre, against about 0.89 kg per metre for 12 mm TMT. It is non-magnetic. It will not bend around a pin on site. Stiffness is much lower than steel, so a slab or beam drawn for TMT cannot take this bar as a silent swap.
If the question is which bar is best, it depends on the exposure and the drawing. Salt, tanks, coastal concrete and some industrial floors are where the non-rusting bar earns its place. A dry house slab already detailed in IS 456 is where a swap goes wrong. The comparison table states the same points in one view. We do not publish a rate that says GFRP is always cheaper per kg than TMT.
