What GFRP rebar cannot do
GFRP does not rust. That is why you specify it. It is less stiff than steel, and it breaks suddenly instead of stretching. A drawing made for steel, with hooks bent on site and crack checks to IS 456, should stay a steel drawing.
The bar does not yield. It carries a pull along the glass and then snaps. Sag and crack width usually decide the design before the breaking strength does. A 12 mm GFRP bar is not a 12 mm Fe550 bar with the rust removed.
It cannot be bent around a pin on site. A shear and a torch are not acceptable ways to cut it. A price per kilogram is not comparable with TMT, because the bar is much lighter and one kilogram contains more metres. Quotes are issued from Changodar. We do not claim that GFRP is always cheaper.
